If you only have a short time to visit the area there are a number of attractions it would be unforgivable to miss. The city of Granada is host to the Alhambra, the second most visited tourist site in Europe and the exquisite collections of Islamic art in the museums and gardens of the Generalife. Almunecar and Salobrena
For those preferring lovely beaches, the Costa Tropical areas of Almunecar and Salobrena offer unspoilt beauty and lots of attractions. Salobreña is fast becoming a favoured holiday spot due to its inherent beauty and charm combined with a perfect location for exploring the treasures of Andalucia. The town is just 45 minutes from the historic city of Granada.
At Almunecar and along the 19 km of local coastline visitors can choose from a large variety of beaches and small coves, ranging from fine sand to shingle. Watersports are very popular and there are numerous businesses offering different types of courses and equipment hire. Divers will find some of the best underwater scenery here of anywhere along the southern coast.
The filming location of many of the 1960’s spaghetti westerns like “A Fistful of Dollars”, “The Magnificent Seven” and “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” is now a Wild West theme park in Europes only desert in Almeria. Spectacular gunfights, a film museum, cactus gardens, indian tepees, a stockaded fort, western style saloon and a zoo with giraffes, bears, hippo, elephants, kangaroos, and iguanas keep you occupied for hours. There is also a bar, restaurant swimming pool and children’s playground. In the same area is Texas Hollywood, a similar western film set where films are still being made but which is still open to the public.
